Getting Around In Iași
Iași is one of the largest cities in Romania, but luckily getting around is fairly easy and there are several options to choose from. Walking is always great for exploring the touristic sights, but there is also an extensive public transport system of trams and buses, taxis and ridesharing are also available and you can rent an electric scooter.
- By foot: Although Iași is a pretty large city, most of the touristic sights are still best explored by foot and this also gives you the opportunity to absorb the vibe of the city and enjoy the architecture of the buildings around you. Walking is also convenient as most sideways are wide and there are many pedestrian crossings.
- By public transport: Iași has an extensive public transport system consisting of 9 tram lines and more than 20 bus lines covering the entire city and the suburbs. As a tourist, you’ll probably only use the trams and maybe the bus to the airport, as these cover the most important areas of the city. There are two zones, but unless you need to go far into the suburbs, you’ll probably stay within zone 1 which also includes the airport. Single-journey tickets for zone 1 are 3.50 lei and are valid for 120 minutes on all tram and bus lines within zone 1, but you need to validate the ticket each time you enter a new vehicle. Tickets can be purchased from ticket booths or vending machines available at some tram and bus stops, but you can also buy a ticket with the 24Pay app or pay contactless with your bank card inside the bus or tram. Simply keep your card in front of the machine and 3.50 lei will be automatically deducted for a single-journey ticket. More information about the bus and tram routes and schedules can be found on the website of CTP Iași.
- By taxi and ridesharing apps: Taxis are also a relatively inexpensive and convenient way to get around in the city and ridesharing apps Bolt and Uber are also available for rides in Iași.
- By electric scooter: E-scooters are also a fun way to get around and both Lime and Bolt currently offer them in Iași.
