The Constanța branch of the National Military Museum King Ferdinand I (Muzeul Militar Național Regele Ferdinand I) is a military history museum in Constanța, with collections focused especially on the military history of Dobrogea. Its exhibitions combine weapons, uniforms, documents and personal objects with larger military equipment displayed outside.
The museum was developed from the late 1970s as a new military-history institution for Constanța and Dobrogea, while several military units were being relocated away from the city center. Construction of the purpose-built museum began in 1980, and the first opening took place in 1985. At that time the institution was administered by the 9th Mechanized Division “Mărășești,” with specialist support from the National Military Museum in Bucharest.
Its displays were reorganized before a second inauguration in 1987, reflecting the ideological requirements imposed on museums during the communist period. After the political changes of 1989, the institution was transferred in 1990 from the 9th Mechanized Division to the National Military Museum, becoming its Constanța branch.
The permanent collection follows military history through weapons from different periods, artillery equipment, uniforms, harnesses, optical instruments, communications equipment, photographs, documents and personal belongings. A strong regional emphasis runs through the displays, including material relating specifically to soldiers from Dobrogea and the military history of the region.
The visit extends outside into a military-equipment park created beside the museum in 2015. Covering about one hectare, it displays larger pieces of military technology that could not be accommodated inside the galleries and complements the historical collections in the main building.
