The Prometheus Statue (Statuia lui Prometeu), also known as the Monument of Electricity (Monumentul Electricității), is a monumental sculpture above the Vidraru Dam in Argeș County. Created in 1965 by sculptor Constantin Popovici, it depicts Prometheus holding a lightning bolt as a symbol of electricity.
The monument was commissioned in connection with the construction of the Vidraru hydroelectric complex and was conceived as a symbol of the power generated by the dam. In Greek mythology, Prometheus stole fire from the gods and gave it to humanity, making him a fitting figure for a monument celebrating electricity and technological progress.
The sculpture stands about 10 meters high on Mount Pleașa, overlooking the dam and reservoir. Its large metallic figure was designed to be visible from a distance, with the raised lightning bolt emphasizing the connection between the mythological story and the hydroelectric project below.
A staircase climbs from the dam area to the monument, where the elevated position also provides views across Lake Vidraru and the surrounding mountains.
