The Mediaș Trade Unions’ House of Culture (Casa de Cultură a Sindicatelor Mediaș) is a cultural venue on Corneliu Coposu Square, forming part of the modern civic center developed outside the historic core of Mediaș.
The building opened in February 1969, during a period when Mediaș was expanding its public and cultural infrastructure beyond the medieval center. Created as part of the nationwide network of trade-union houses of culture, it was designed to serve a broad social and educational role rather than function only as a performance hall. At its inauguration, the building included a 550-seat auditorium, a library, reading rooms and spaces for rehearsals and organized cultural activities.
For many years, the house hosted performances, festivals, courses and community activities, reflecting the wider role these institutions played in cultural and social life. Its program was not limited to concerts and theater, but also included educational activities and spaces for local groups and organized events.
The institution remained in existence after the communist period, but activity gradually declined and much of the building fell out of regular public use. Over time, parts of the complex deteriorated as its cultural role became more limited.
In recent years, cultural events and artistic projects have begun returning to the site, while the institution itself remains connected to the national network of trade-union houses of culture. Its longer-term role is still evolving, but the building continues to represent an important part of the modern civic and cultural history of Mediaș.
