The Apollo Palace (Palatul Apollo) is a historic building on the corner of Republic Avenue and Strada Mihai Eminescu in Oradea, Bihor County.
The Apollo Palace was built in an Eclectic style between 1912 and 1914 following the plans of the architect Kálmán Rimanóczy Jr. The building was constructed on the site of the former Apollo Inn, and unlike its surrounding buildings, which were built at private initiatives, it was built at the initiative of the city council to generate rental income. Kálmán Rimanóczy Jr. was awarded the project after his design won the competition in 1911, but unfortunately, he died before the construction had started in 1912. His collaborator Tivadar Krausze went on to complete the project at the request of Rimanóczy’s widow and with the support of the city council.
For years, the City Cafe operated in the building, a place where the affluent people of the city met to socialize, like doctors, traders, and industrialists. During the communist era, the building was nationalized and transformed into a state department store and later into a grocery store. Nowadays, the Apollo Palace houses multiple commercial businesses.
