The Palace of Justice (Palatul de Justiție) is a historic monument facing Trajan Park in Oradea, Bihor County. The building houses the Oradea District Court, the Oradea Court of Appeal, and the Bihor County Court.
The Palace of Justice was built between 1897 and 1898 on the site of the former Frimont Palace from the early 19th century. The palace was designed in an Eclectic style by the architect István Kiss and the construction took place under the supervision of the engineer Miksa Schiffer. The imposing structure is built around a courtyard and consists of three levels. The upper part of the central facade is delimited by columns with Ionic capitals, above which four allegorical statues are placed.
Until 1951, the building served its initial purpose as a courthouse, but between 1951 and 1959 it housed the regional communist party of CriÅŸana. Between 1960 and 1989, it housed the Bihor Party County Committee, and from 1990 until 2000 the Bihor County Prefecture.
In 2016, the Palace of Justice was renovated and expanded to a total floor area of 11.770 square meters. It has now 10 courtrooms, archive spaces, technical spaces, office spaces, and cells for inmates awaiting trial.
