The Statue of Mircea the Elder (Statuia lui Mircea cel Bătrân) is a bronze monument on City Hall Square in central Pitești, unveiled on May 20, 1998, to commemorate the city’s first documented mention. Pitești appears in a charter issued on May 20, 1388, by Mircea the Elder, who ruled Wallachia from 1386 to 1418.
Created by sculptors Grigore Minea and Aurelian Bolea, the statue depicts the prince standing in medieval royal attire, wearing a crown and holding a large sword. The bronze figure stands on a tall stone pedestal bearing his name and dates of reign.
