The Cutlers’ Bastion (Bastionul Cuțitarilor) is a semicircular defensive bastion on the northeastern side of the medieval fortifications of Mediaș. Maintained by the town’s cutlers’ guild, it stands at the point where the city wall turns between Strada După Zid and the eastern side of the old town.
Unlike the enclosed towers elsewhere along the fortifications, the bastion is open on the inner side and consists mainly of the curved defensive wall itself. Firing openings face in several directions, while traces of the former guard walk survive along the masonry.
The adjoining city wall continues directly toward the former monastic buildings that now house the Mediaș Municipal Museum, placing the bastion within one of the best-preserved stretches of the eastern fortifications.
