The Stephan Ludwig Roth Memorial House (Casa Memorială Stephan Ludwig Roth) is a small museum in Mediaș dedicated to the Saxon educator, pastor and political thinker Stephan Ludwig Roth (1796-1849). The museum occupies a neoclassical house on Strada Johannes Honterus where Roth lived during part of his life in the town.
Roth was born nearby, in a house within the fortified enclosure around Saint Margaret’s Church, and later became closely involved with the town’s Evangelical school. His work as a teacher, pastor and public figure made him one of the most important representatives of the Transylvanian Saxon community during the first half of the 19th century.
The memorial museum was established in 1970 and occupies several rooms of the house. Its collection includes furniture, documents, photographs, books and personal objects connected with Roth and his family, presenting his life in a more domestic setting than the school and other public places in Mediaș that preserve his legacy.
