The Dobrogea Day Memorial Stone is a small commemorative monument in City Hall Park in Constanța, dedicated to 14 November 1878 and the incorporation of Northern Dobrogea into Romania. The date is now celebrated annually as Dobrogea Day.
The commemoration refers to the aftermath of the Russo-Turkish War of 1877-1878 and the Treaty of Berlin, which recognized Romania’s independence and transferred Northern Dobrogea from the Ottoman Empire to Romania. On 14 November, Prince Carol I issued a proclamation to the inhabitants of Dobrogea as Romanian troops and officials began entering the newly acquired territory. Constanța itself came under Romanian administration several days later, on 23 November.
The memorial takes the form of a low stone structure fitted with metal plaques recalling the events of 1878. It stands in the eastern corner of the park besides the Administrative Palace, where it provides a small reminder of the political change that began Constanța’s modern development as part of Romania.
