The Olimpia Museum of Sports and Mountain Tourism (Olimpia – Muzeul Sportului și Turismului Montan) is located in the historic Olimpia Building in the center of Brașov.
The sports museum is the first of its kind in Romania and also functions as a research center for the history of sports. During the interwar period, King Carol II declared sports a national concern, and during the communist period, a lot of investments were made in setting up facilities and sports teams to compete at international tournaments, including the (winter) Olympics.
The Olimpia Museum of Sports and Mountain Tourism takes you on a journey throughout the evolution of sports in Romania, from the pioneers of the 19th century to the heroes of today. When it comes to winter sports like skiing, Brașov has always played an important role due to its location next to the Bucegi and Postăvar Mountains.
