The Glossner Villa (Vila Glossner) is a large historic residence at the corner of Strada Ion Rațiu and Strada George Coșbuc in Sibiu, now used by the Faculty of Sciences of Lucian Blaga University.
Built in 1903 for Josef and Ernestine Glossner, the villa became one of the most substantial private residences in this part of Sibiu. Josef Glossner was a senior Austro-Hungarian military official who also supported the city’s Natural History Museum, and the scale of the house reflected the position of the family. The residence contained more than twenty rooms, together with several kitchens, entrance halls and service spaces.
The villa has richly decorated façades along both Strada Ion Rațiu and Strada George Coșbuc, with molded window surrounds, horizontal bands and sculpted ornament. The corner facing the intersection is especially distinctive, where a tall arched entrance is framed by elaborate decorative work and topped by a projecting upper section. After 1950, the building was extended along Strada George Coșbuc with a new wing that closely follows the proportions and appearance of the older structure.
After nationalization, the building passed into institutional use and was eventually incorporated into higher education in Sibiu. Technical studies were based here from the 1980s, and in 1990 the property became home to the Faculty of Sciences of Lucian Blaga University. The university later acquired the building, which remains protected as a historic monument.
