The Greek Church of Bucharest (Biserica Greacă din București) is a Greek Orthodox church, which is dedicated to the Feast of the Annunciation. The church is located on the grounds of the Greek Embassy in Bucharest.
In the late 19th century, the local Greek community did not have its own church and was therefore attending services at other churches. In 1898, with the help of several donors, a 1900-square-meter piece of land was purchased to fulfill a long-lasting desire to have a dedicated place of worship for the Greek community. After attending the liturgy at the Stavropoleos Church on 25 March 1899, Greece’s national day and the day of the Annunciation, several members of the Greek community went to see the blessing of laying the foundation stone of the new Greek Church. On the same day in 1901, exactly two years later, the first liturgy was held at the Greek Church in the presence of the Greek ambassador Gheorgios Arghiropoulos.
The Greek Church of Bucharest is a unique architecural mix of an ancient Ionian temple from the outside with the interior of a Byzantine basilica. The church is 24 meters long and 13.5 meters wide. The exterior is surrounded by large columns with pediments above the front and back.
In 1999 a statue of Rigas Feraios was placed in front of the church. In 2000 the interior paintings of the church were restored.
