The Church Of Saints Joachim And Ana – Old Cattle Yard (Biserica SfinÈ›ii Ioachim È™i Ana – Oborul Vechi) is a Romanian Orthdox Church near the Fire Tower in Bucharest.
In 1719, the serdar Matei MogoÈ™ erected an imposing cross carved in stone to celebrate that his family had escaped the plague. The stone cross has a height of 5 meters and a width of 60 cm with arms of 40 cm and is considered a rare beauty and one of the most imposing stone crosses in Romania.
To shelter the stone cross, the metropolitan Grigore founded a church around 1780. It was probably built in three stages, starting with the altar in which the cross is incorporated, followed by the nave, and later the narthex. The church was often referred to as the Old Cattle Yard Church (Biserica Oberul Vechi) as cattle used to graze in the area around the church.
