The Armenian Church of Bucharest (Biserica Armenească din București) is an Armenian Apostolic church on Carol I Boulevard in the Armenian quarter of Bucharest. The church is dedicated to the Archangels Michael and Gabriel.
The church was built on the former site of an earlier church from 1743. The old church was destroyed by a fire in 1781 and rebuilt again between 1796 and 1797 but was later demolished and replaced with the current church.
The Armenian Church of Bucharest was designed by the Romanian architect Dimitrie Maimarolu and the Armenian architect Grigore Cerchez, who took inspiration from the Etchmiadzin Cathedral in Armenia, which was built between 301 and 303. The construction took place between 1911 and 1915 and included several other buildings, including a bishop’s residence, a library, a diocesan museum, and a cultural center. The interior paintings are the work of Bassano. On 6 September 1915, the church was consecrated.
The Armenian Church has a spire above its nave, a bell tower with two levels of arches, and two smaller towers. In front of the church entrance is the Armenian Cultural Center with a library and museum which exhibits historic books, manuscripts and other historic cultural objects. In the churchyard, you can see a bronze bust of Andranic (1865-1927, an Armenian general and national hero which is made by the sculptor H. Torosian.
