About The Filipescu-Cesianu House
The Filipescu-Cesianu House was built in the 19th century and is one of the aristocratic residences of the Belle Époque. Several aristocratic families have resided in the building, including Iancu Filipescu and Maria Ghica Filipescu. In 1892, the building was expanded by Constantin Cesianu with the help of the architect Leonida Negrescu. During this makeover its appearance radically changed with a new imperial roof and the addition of exterior decorations. Also the park was laid out at this time.
In 1935, the house was sold to the Romanian Broadcasting Company which handed it over to the City Hall in 1939. Until 2015. the building was used as an office and warehouse. After an extensive renovation, the Filipescu-Cesianu House opened as a museum in 2016.
