The Boteanu Church (Biserica Boteanu) is a Romanian Orthodox church on Strada Boteanu in central Bucharest.
The history of the church goes back to 1682, when a wooden church was erected in its place, which was then at the border of the city. The church was named the Bradu-Boteanu Church, after a tall fir tree (bradu) next to it, and after the Boteanu slum it was located in. The church was dedicated to the Beheading of Saint John the Baptist.
In 1760, the wooden church was replaced by a brick church by Maxem and Gheorghe, two descendents of the original founder. Between 1908 and 1911 the small brick church was demolished and the current church was erected in its place at the initiative of Zinca Izvoranul. The church has a plan in the shape of a Byzantine cross with the addition of a porch at the entrance. The dedication to the Holy Governors (Sfinţii Voievozi) was added as well.
After the 1977 earthquake, the church also took over the dedication to Saint Varvara the Great Martyr from the nearby Ienia Church, which was accidentally demolished in the aftermath of the earthquake.
