The Tailors’ Tower (Turnul Croitorilor) is a medieval defensive tower on the southern side of the fortified enclosure around the Saint Margaret’s Church in Mediaș. The tower was entrusted to the tailors’ guild, which was responsible for maintaining and defending this part of the church fortress.
Built on a rectangular plan and rising through seven levels, the tower was designed to defend the southern wall with firing openings and projecting machicolations near the top. These openings allowed defenders to attack anyone who reached the base of the walls, while the guild emblem placed on the tower marked the craftsmen responsible for it.
The tower later became partly incorporated into the Old Town Hall, which was rebuilt after 1583 with financial support from Prince Stephen Báthory. Several rooms within the tower and adjoining building were used as a prison during the medieval period, adding a civic function to what had originally been a defensive structure.
