The Former Mediaș City Hall (Fosta Primărie din Mediaș) is a historic civic building on King Ferdinand I Square in the center of Mediaș.
Its oldest surviving fabric dates from the 15th century, although the building was altered repeatedly during the following centuries. It began as a substantial town house on the main square and only later took on an administrative role, becoming the second seat of the Mediaș town government after the earlier town hall inside the fortified enclosure around St. Margaret’s Church.
That move placed the civic administration directly on the town’s principal marketplace, where merchants, guilds and municipal authorities were already concentrated. The building continued to evolve as its function changed, with additions and alterations from the 16th through the 18th centuries gradually reshaping the medieval structure into the form seen today.
Its long history is still visible in the irregular proportions and mixture of architectural phases rather than in one clearly defined style. The façade facing the square is relatively restrained, while the deeper structure behind it preserves the footprint of the earlier house that was adapted for municipal use.
Although the city administration later moved into the new City Hall on Corneliu Coposu Square, the building remains an important part of the civic history of Mediaș, marking the point where the town hall moved out of the fortified church complex and onto the main square.
