Rope Street (Strada Sforii) is the narrowest street in Brașov, and is even considered one of the narrowest streets in Europe. It is located close to the Șchei Gate in the historic old town.
The street’s width varies between 111 and 135 centimeters and its length is 80 meters, stretching between Strada Poarta Șchei and Strada Cerbului. Initially, the street was just a corridor for firemen, but allegedly it was also a favorite place for lovers to hang out in medieval times. Nowadays Strada Sforii is rather a tourist attraction since the pavement and walls have been restored. The lanterns that illuminate the street have been based on the iconic lights of a century ago but with electricity instead of gas.
