The Mihai Ursachi Culture House (Casa de Cultură Mihai Ursachi) is a municipal cultural venue in Copou Park in Iași, occupying part of the same building as the Mihai Eminescu Museum and the History of Romanian Theater Collection. It hosts theater, concerts, literary events, exhibitions, film screenings, workshops, and other cultural programs throughout the year.
The institution itself is older than its present home. It developed from the Tătărași Cultural Center during the communist period and became the Iași Municipal Culture House in 1968. After several changes of administration and location, it moved into the Copou Park building in 2003. The structure had originally been completed in 1989 to commemorate the centenary of Mihai Eminescu’s death, but by the early 2000s it had become a shared cultural building with several institutions using different parts of it.
In 2004, the Culture House was renamed after poet, essayist, translator, and professor Mihai Ursachi, who had directed the institution for more than four years before his death that year. A small memorial space inside recreates the atmosphere of his office and preserves his presence within an institution whose activities continue to emphasize literature alongside theater, music, film, and visual art.
The Culture House has a 106-seat performance hall used for theater, concerts, conferences, book launches, and other events, as well as a smaller multimedia room for workshops and meetings. The Labirint Gallery presents changing art and photography exhibitions, while additional displays are mounted on outdoor panels along the park. During the warmer months, some events move outside into Copou Park, including performances and literary programs near the Mihai Eminescu monument.
