The Sibiu Municipal Stadium (Stadionul Municipal Sibiu) is the main football stadium in Sibiu, standing beside Sub Arini Park on the southern side of the city.
The site has been used for organized football since the 1920s, when work began on a new sports ground in 1925 and the stadium was inaugurated in 1927. A covered stand followed soon afterward, and the venue was expanded several times over the following decades as football became an increasingly important part of sporting life in Sibiu.
The stadium has served a succession of local clubs rather than one continuous team. Șoimii Sibiu, Inter Sibiu, FC Sibiu, Voința Sibiu and, more recently, FC Hermannstadt all used the ground during different periods, giving the stadium a much longer and more stable history than any single club that played there. It also hosted Romanian national-team matches in the 1980s, including a 1-0 victory over Italy in 1989.
By the 2010s, the old stadium no longer met modern requirements, and a major redevelopment gradually turned into an almost complete rebuild. Most of the previous structure was demolished and replaced between 2020 and 2022, with the new stadium opening in December 2022. The rebuilt venue has around 12,000 seats and was designed to meet UEFA Category IV standards, with modern stands, hospitality areas and improved facilities for players, officials and spectators.
FC Hermannstadt became the stadium’s principal tenant after the club was founded in 2015 and rose rapidly through the Romanian leagues. The club’s later financial problems led to its withdrawal from Liga II in 2026, leaving the long-term professional football use of the stadium less certain.
