Sala Transilvania is a multipurpose indoor sports arena opposite the Municipal Stadium in Sibiu.
Plans for a larger indoor arena in Sibiu began before the fall of communism, when local sports officials pushed for a modern hall modeled partly on the arena in Târgu Mureș. The project was delayed before construction could be completed, and it was only revived during the 1990s, when Sibiu County Council made the new sports hall one of its major investments. Sala Transilvania finally opened in 1998 and was considered one of the most modern indoor arenas in Romania at the time.
Basketball has become particularly important to the hall’s identity through BC CSU Sibiu, whose home games regularly bring large crowds into the arena. The playing floor can also be configured for handball, volleyball, futsal, martial arts, tennis and dance competitions, while the surrounding halls and concourses allow the building to host exhibitions, fairs, concerts and other events.
The main arena has around 1,800 permanent seats, with additional telescopic seating available when required. Spectators are seated close to the court, which has helped give basketball games here an energetic atmosphere, particularly when CSU Sibiu is playing.
