Cefa Natural Park is a serene, lowland protected area located near the Hungarian border in Bihor County. Unlike the dramatic mountain parks, Cefa is a flat, expansive wetland landscape characterized by a mosaic of fishponds, drainage canals, marshes, and the ancient Rădvani Forest. It serves as a vital stopover on the Pannonian–Bulgarian bird migration corridor, making it an exceptional destination for birdwatchers.
Summer (June-August): This is the season of peak biological activity. The park is lush, green, and teeming with life, particularly water birds like herons, egrets, and storks. Daytime temperatures are warm, typically ranging from 25°C to 30°C. It is the ideal time for birdwatching and exploring the park by boat or along the canal banks, though the open terrain offers little shade, so sun protection is essential.
Spring and Autumn: These are the most comfortable and rewarding periods for visitors. Spring (April–May) coincides with the main migration season, offering incredible opportunities to observe various bird species in their natural habitat. Autumn (September–October) is quiet and golden, with mild, pleasant weather averaging 15°C to 20°C, making it perfect for photography and peaceful, slow-paced exploration of the wetlands.
Winter (December-March): The park becomes a quiet, frozen landscape, with temperatures generally between -2°C and 5°C. While the main river channels remain active, smaller ponds and marshes may ice over, creating a stark, minimalist beauty. It is a time of deep stillness, suitable for observing wintering bird species from the riverbanks, though winter road access to remote areas of the park should be navigated with standard winter caution.
