The Omul Universal Monument is a contemporary kinetic sculpture in central Sinaia, created by the Romanian artist Ștefan Râmniceanu. Installed in 2018, the monument stands around four meters high and was designed to rotate on a motorized base, allowing its form to be seen from different angles.
The sculpture develops a theme that appears repeatedly in Râmniceanu’s work. His Omul Universal, or “Universal Man,” is not intended as a portrait of a particular person, but as a broader representation of humanity, knowledge and spiritual development. The figure has appeared in several of his paintings and sculptures, where it forms part of a wider exploration of the human condition.
Made from heavy steel and finished with a painted surface, the Sinaia monument has a deliberately abstract and monumental appearance. Its rotating mechanism adds movement to the composition, changing the silhouette as the sculpture turns and making the work part of the surrounding public space rather than a conventional static monument.
