The Bucharest City Hall (Primăria Municipiului București) is the seat of the Municipality of Bucharest and is located on Queen Elisabeth Boulevard, opposite Cișmigiu Garden.
The building was constructed between 1906 and 1910 following the architectural design of Petre Antonescu, one the most important architects of the city at that time. The Neo-Romanian building resembles the shape of a square with the main entrance and vestibule with three large columns in the center of its facade.
Between 1916 and 1918, during the German occupation of World War I, the building was used by the German General Command. Until 1948, when it was damaged by bombings, it housed the Ministry of Public Works. After it was rebuilt and enlarged with another floor with the help of Petre Antonescu, it became the Bucharest City Hall. Between 2011 and 2016 a major renovation of the building took place which cost over 28 million euros.
It also houses the Mayor of Bucharest and the General Council of Bucharest, the legislative body of the Municipality of Bucharest which is elected every four years. Bucharest is further devided into six sectors which each have their own Sectorial Council and Mayor located elswhere in the city.
