Constanța County is one of the 41 counties (județe) of Romania. It is located in the South-East development region and is part of the historical region of Dobrogea. Constanța borders Bulgaria, the Black Sea, and the other Romanian counties of Tulcea, Brăila, Ialomița, and Călărași. The namesake city of Constanța is the largest city and capital of Constanța County.
Weather & Climate
Constanța County features a unique landscape where the Dobruja Plateau meets the Black Sea coast and the Danube Delta. This creates a distinct Pontic-influenced continental climate, where maritime proximity moderates inland temperatures, though the region remains subject to specific wind patterns.
In summer, the coast is warm and sun-drenched, with temperatures typically ranging from 27°C to 30°C. Transition seasons are consistently pleasant, averaging 12°C to 19°C, offering stable, dry windows for exploring archaeological sites and nature reserves.
Regional contrasts are defined by winter wind exposure. While coastal urban basins hover between 1°C and 4°C, the flat, open interior plateau is frequently swept by the Crivăț, a sharp, cold wind that significantly increases wind chill. Travelers should prepare for biting conditions when venturing inland or traveling through open rural landscapes during winter.
