The Botanical Park of Timișoara (Parcul Botanică din Timișoara) is a botanical garden and scientific reserve located northeast of the historical center of Timișoara.
The park was originally designed as a botanical garden by the landscape architect Silvia Grumeza in 1966. It was opened to the public on June 29, 1986, and fulfilled several functions: scientific, didactic, educational, and recreational. In 2008 the botanical park was redesigned and a Japanese teahouse was built as well.
The Botanical Park of Timișoara has a size of about 84,100 m2 and is the second largest park in the city. Nowadays the park has a collection of over 200 plant species grouped into different sectors, including ornamental flora, Romanian flora, Mediterranean flora, Asian flora, and medicinal plants.
The Botanical Park is not really comparable with other neatly arranged and maintained botanical gardens elsewhere and looks a bit more rough, but at the same time there is no admission fee either.
