The Botoșani Electric Power Plant (Uzina Electrică din Botoșani) is an early-20th-century industrial building in Botoșani, created during the modernization of the city’s electricity supply. The surviving plant replaced an earlier generating installation and formed part of the expansion of public lighting and municipal infrastructure during this period.
Electricity was already being produced in Botoșani before the present building was erected, but the new plant provided a much larger generating capacity. By the early 1910s it had been equipped with three diesel generating units with a combined output of around 875 kW, making it one of the more powerful electricity plants in northern Moldavia at the time.
The building was designed as a large industrial hall, with its architecture shaped by the machinery and metal roof structure required inside. Historical material preserved in the plant included a map showing the routes of the city’s street-lighting network and the buildings supplied with electricity.
During the communist period, the property was used by the regional electricity undertaking IRE, and after the restructuring and privatization of the energy sector it passed to Servicii Energetice Moldova.
