The Alexandru Văsescu House (Casa Alexandru Văsescu) is a late-19th-century historic residence in central Botoșani that belonged to lawyer and politician Alexandru Văsescu. Built around 1890, the house later became part of the Carmen Sylva girls’ high school and is now used by the Botoșani County Directorate for Culture.
Văsescu studied law and pursued a political career that included serving as Romania’s minister of finance in 1867. He also owned a large estate at Coțușca in Botoșani County, while the house on Strada Unirii formed his urban residence in the city.
The house has two levels with six rooms on each floor, connected by a main staircase and a secondary staircase once used by household staff. Its eclectic architecture follows the Moldavian classical tradition, with a balanced façade, regular window arrangement and restrained decorative detailing.
The property remained with the Văsescu family before being sold in 1926 to the Ministry of Education for use by the Carmen Sylva girls’ high school. Today, it houses the Botoșani County Directorate for Culture.
