The Anton Pann Memorial House (Casa Memorială Anton Pann) is a museum about the musician and poet Anton Pann, located in his former residence in Bucharest. The museum is administered by the National Museum of Romanian Literature.
About Anton Pann
Anton Pann was born sometime between 1794 and 1798 as Anton Pantoleon-Petroveanu in Sliven, Rumelia (now Bulgaria). During the Russo-Turkish War (1806-1812) he fled to Chișinău in Bessarabia (now Moldova) with his family. There he started his musical career by singing in a Russian Orthodox choir and in 1812 he moved to Bucharest with his mother, where he would spend a large part of his life. He was invited to sing in the Church with Saints, went to study music, and started writing and composing.
Anton Pann went on to become an influential composer, musicologist, poet, writer, teacher, and folklorist. His most well-know work is the Romanian national anthem “Wake Up Romanians!” (DeÈ™teaptă-te, române!). After his death he was buried next to his mother in the Saint Stelian – Lucaci Church.
