The Church of the Martyred Heroes of December 1989 (Biserica Eroilor Martiri din Decembrie 1989), or simply the Heroes Church (Biserica Eroilor), is a Romanian Orthodox church located next to Bellu Cemetery and the Youth Park in Bucharest.
The church is dedicated to the Saint Nasterea Domnului and was built in 1993 as a tribute to the people who fell during the 1989 Revolution that brought down the Communist regime. Around the church is a cemetery with the graves of these victims, whose names have been inscribed into the altar of the church as well. The church was designed by the architect Diaconu Nicolae who won the competition, and the construction plans were the work of a group of architects led by Alexandru Pepescu-Greaca. The internal frescos were created is 2000 by the painter Vasile Anghelache and the mosaic panels on the walls of the porch were added in 2004 by several artists.
Althought the first services were already held in the unfinished church in 1995, the Heroes Church was officially inaugurated on 1 June 2003. On this day the relics of Epictit and Astion, two holy healers who suffered as martyrs in the ancient city of Halmyris between 298-303 AD, were brought to the church. The church commemorates these two martyrs every year on the 8th of July.
The Heroes Church was built in the Moldovian style of the 16th-17th centuries with Neoclassical elements and three towers. The structure measures a height of 42 meters and has a capacity to host 300 believers.
