The Cesianu-Racoviță Palace (Palatul Cesianu-Racoviță) is a historic monument on Strada C.A. Rosetti in central Bucharest. The building currently houses the auction house Artmark.
The Cesianu-Racoviță Palace was built between 1892 and 1902 after the design of the French architect Paul Gottereau. The palace has a French Renaissance and Beaux Art style with a monumental staircase equipped with two ramps, which leads to the entrance of the first floor. It is also richly decorated with carvings, sculptures, and frescoes.
The owner of the house was Nicolae Cesianu, who’s daughter married Alexandru Racoviță, which is how the building ended up with the name Cesianu-Racoviță Palace. The Cesianu family also owned one of the houses that was bought by the state and transitioned into the headquarters of the Romanian Academy.
Under the communist regime, the Cesianu-Racoviță Palace was nationalized and housed a grocery store. After 1989 the building came in the hands of the company Comaliment of the businessman Gabriel Popoviciu.
Since 2011, the Cesianu-Racoviță Palace houses the auction house Artmark and the Artmark Gallery, which houses temporary exhibitions that are open to the public. So tourists can visit the building and admire the beauty of its interior.
