Spark is a mobility company from Vilnius, Lithuania offering pay-as-you-use electric car-sharing in several cities across Europe. Their services are also available in Romania and its office is located in Bucharest.
What Is SPARK Car-Sharing?
SPARK is a car-sharing service offering rental cars that you book through a mobile application and pay for by the minute of usage. This is ideal if you need a car for a short period of time, but you can also book it for a day or longer and drive anywhere in Romania. All cars in the fleet are electric and have automatic transmission.
How Does Car-Sharing With SPARK Work?
The first step is to download the app via the Apple or Google Play store and sign up by creating an account. You can either choose the free standard plan or a paid monthly subscription. The paid subscriptions give you access to more expensive cars and slightly cheaper rental rates. In all cases a registration fee of 200 lei is payable and this will be transferred into a credit of 250 lei you can use in the first 180 days.
Cars are parked throughout the city and via the app you can find which cars are available, book one and simply unlock it and drive away. A reservation will be kept for 15 minutes which you can extend once at an additional fee. Once you’ve completed your trip you don’t have to return the car to the same location as you can park it in any of the white zones throughout the city that you can find on the map in the app. At the end of your trip the total cost will be automatically charged based on the applicable rate of the care type and the time used.
Where Is SPARK available?
In Romania SPARK car-sharing is only available in Bucharest at the moment.
Why Use SPARK Car-Sharing?
SPARK car-sharing is ideal if you need a car instantly or for a short period of time, for example to transport something heavy, go on a grocery shopping trip, or go somewhere that is hard to reach by public transport. There are cars available throughout the city and it’s easy to book a car and instantly use it. So there’s no need to go to the airport or other traditional car rental location and fill out any paperwork. Since you pay per minute it’s relatively cheap for short trips, but it gets more expensive for longer trips. Daily rates are also available but since they have a mileage cap, in many cases it’s cheaper rent a car from a traditional car rental company for longer trips. You search and compare all car rental offers for your dates in the Car Rental section of our website.
