The Lascăr House (Casa Lascăr) is a historic residence on Cuza Vodă Street in central Focșani, built during the late 19th century for Costache Lascăr, a local merchant who supported the union of Moldavia and Wallachia.
Following Lascăr’s death, the property changed ownership before being purchased by the Discount Bank of Romania (Banca de Scont a României) in March 1920. The bank used the building until its nationalization in 1950, when it was transferred to state ownership.
During the Communist period, the house accommodated medical facilities, including maternity services, until these moved to the new county hospital in 1972. The building was subsequently converted into a kindergarten, which operated there for several decades. Following restitution proceedings in the early 2000s, the property ceased to be used for education and gradually deteriorated.
The house is smaller than the neighboring Macridescu House, with an original interior comprising six rooms. Its facade features decorative window surrounds and ornamental plasterwork characteristic of Focșani’s late 19th-century urban residences.
