Eugen Ionescu Park (Parcul Eugen Ionescu) is a public garden in front of the Olt County Museum in the historic center of Slatina. Named after the Romanian-born French playwright Eugène Ionesco (1909-1994), who was born in a nearby house, the park has landscaped paths, flowerbeds, a fountain, and a monument honoring the writer.
The garden was established near the former County Administrative Palace and underwent a major redesign in 2007, when its paths were repaved and a musical fountain with colored lighting and eight water jets was installed. A wooden gazebo provides space for occasional brass-band performances, while benches and a children’s playground are arranged among the planted areas. The bronze statue of Eugen Ionescu, created by sculptor Ioan Bolborea and unveiled in November 2005, depicts the playwright standing beside a wrought-iron railing. The park underwent further landscaping and maintenance work in 2020, including improvements to its irrigation system and planting.
