The Diana the Huntress Statue (Statuia Diana Vânătoarea) is a 19th-century cast-iron sculpture on Piața Gării in Giurgiu, depicting Diana, the Roman goddess of hunting, accompanied by a deer. The figure wears a short tunic and carries a quiver of arrows, reaching toward the deer beside her. It is modeled on the celebrated ancient sculpture known as Diana of Versailles, preserved in the Louvre Museum in Paris.
The statue originally stood in the gardens of the manor belonging to physician and politician Apostol Arsache in the nearby village of Vedea. It was later donated to Giurgiu by his descendants and moved to its present location around the middle of the 20th century. Another sculpture from the same estate, Apollo Belvedere, was also transferred to the city.
The figure closely matches a decorative cast-iron model offered by the French Val d’Osne foundry in its 1866 catalog. Such reproductions of classical sculptures were produced for gardens and public spaces throughout Europe during the 19th century. Although the Giurgiu statue bears no surviving manufacturer’s signature, its design preserves the characteristic composition of Diana advancing with the deer beside her.
