The Giurgiu City Hall (Primăria Giurgiu) is the headquarters of the municipal administration of Giurgiu, housed in a historic building originally constructed as an apprentices’ dormitory. Designed by architect Ion Dinulescu and dating from 1933, the building was intended to accommodate students attending the city’s School of Fishing, Fish Farming, and Navigation.
The dormitory was developed during the interwar period to provide accommodation for young people receiving vocational training in maritime and fishing-related occupations. It subsequently passed into the administration of the Ministry of Education, under which it operated before being transferred to the Giurgiu Municipality in October 1996. The transfer allowed the municipal administration to relocate from the Old Giurgiu City Hall, a building dating from 1889.
To accommodate its new administrative function, the former dormitory underwent extensive structural reinforcement and renovation, including the reorganization of its interior and the construction of an additional wing. The building now houses the mayor’s office, municipal departments, and public services, while its original interwar structure forms the historic part of the City Hall complex.
