The Kretzulescu Church (Biserica Crețulescu or Biserica Kretzulescu) is an Eastern Orthodox church in the Kretzulescu Park on Victory Boulevard, opposite Revolution Square in central Bucharest.
The church was built between 1720-1722 in the Brâncovenesc style by the boyar Iordache Crețulescu and his wife Safta. An earthquake severely damaged the church in 1940 and under the communist regime demolition was even considered, but efforts to save it were successful.
More damage occurred during another earthquake in 1977 and during the Revolution of 1989 but several renovations have saved the beautiful church again. It is one of the most eye-catching and charming churches in Bucharest and is definitely worth a visit. Inside you’ll see an abundance of decorations, including the golden altar, frescos, and paintings.
