The Iași Palace of Justice (Palatul de Justiție din Iași) is a monumental modernist courthouse on Strada Anastasie Panu in central Iași. Built between 1981 and 1986, it forms part of the communist-era Civic Center and houses the Iași District Court.
The building was designed by architect Cristian Constantinescu of the Iași County Design Institute during the large-scale redevelopment of the city center. Its construction brought several judicial institutions together in a purpose-built headquarters, replacing the arrangement in which courts and related services had occupied different buildings across Iași. When it opened in 1986, it accommodated the District Court, Iași Tribunal, Military Tribunal, State Notary, and Bar Association.
The architecture reflects the monumental concrete style of the period, with a broad façade and strong geometric forms. The courthouse was incorporated into the new urban ensemble along Anastasie Panu Boulevard, flanked by apartment buildings whose decorative concrete friezes depict a stylized Hora Unirii, the traditional Union Dance.
Following the fall of communism, changes to Romania’s judicial system increased the demands on the building, particularly with the re-establishment of the Court of Appeal. A new Palace of Justice was therefore constructed on Strada Elena Doamna, and the Court of Appeal and Iași Tribunal relocated there in September 2014. The original courthouse continues to accommodate the civil and criminal divisions of the Iași District Court.
