Church of the Annunciation (Biserica Buna Vestire) is a Romanian Orthodox church in Galați, built between 1857 and 1859 in what was then a sparsely developed area of gardens on the edge of the growing city.
The site was donated by a local benefactor named Fotie, who also provided the largest contribution toward construction. Work began in 1857 and was completed two years later, during the period when Alexandru Ioan Cuza was serving as pârcălab of Galați shortly before the union of Moldavia and Wallachia. At the time, the surrounding area was still known for its gardens, a memory preserved in the former name of nearby Strada Mihai Eminescu, once called Strada Grădinarilor.
The church follows a traditional Orthodox layout, with a compact nave, projecting apses and a bell tower rising above the western entrance. Its exterior is comparatively restrained, with pale plastered walls and arched openings, while the interior is dominated by the iconostasis and painted decoration.
Structural problems eventually required a major intervention beginning in 2009. Because the masonry had been built without a supporting metal frame, the restoration added an external structural system and reinforced the foundations with additional concrete belts. The interior paintings were also restored during the works.
