Villa Șipot – The Architect’s House (Vila Șipot – Casa Arhitectului) is a historic villa on the Peleș Royal Estate in Sinaia, standing near the Economat buildings on the western side of the complex. Designed in 1900 by Czech architect Karel Liman, it served as both his residence and the headquarters of the Royal Architecture Office while major construction and alterations were taking place across the estate.
Liman was one of the principal architects behind the later development of Peleș. He worked on major extensions and interior changes at Peleș Castle and designed Pelișor Castle, while Villa Șipot placed him directly among the buildings he was helping to create. King Carol I regularly came to the architecture office to discuss plans and follow the progress of the work, turning the villa into one of the working centers behind the development of the royal estate.
The building itself is much more modest than the nearby royal residences and, partly hidden among the trees, is easy to overlook. Its steep tiled roofs, timber framing, carved wooden details and balconies nevertheless give it plenty of character and fit naturally into the architectural language of the wider estate. A large terrace was added in 1908-1909, giving Liman broad views across the complex where so much of his work was taking shape.
Liman continued to live here until his death in 1929. The villa later passed through several different uses and eventually operated as tourist accommodation, but unsympathetic alterations and years of insufficient maintenance damaged much of the interior. After returning to the possession of King Michael in 2011, it became the first major architectural restoration project undertaken by the Association for the Peleș Royal Heritage.
The restored villa has since returned to active use. The ground floor houses the Peleș Architects’ Gallery, devoted to the architects and designers who created and developed the royal estate, while the rest of the building once again functions as accommodation. Visitors can now stay overnight inside Villa Șipot itself, with rooms overlooking Pelișor, Peleș and the surrounding estate, while a restaurant and bar add another reason to stop here even for those who are not staying.

For most people exploring the Peleș estate, Villa Șipot will still be a much quieter discovery than the nearby castles, but that is also part of its appeal. Behind its modest exterior is the place where much of the architectural work that shaped the estate was planned, and today the restored building once again forms a living part of the complex rather than simply a monument viewed from outside.
