The Nicolae Petrașcu House (Casa Nicolae Petrașcu) is the former residence of the famous Romanian writer Nicolae Petrașcu (1859-1944) on Roman Square (Piața Romană) in Bucharest.
In 1906 Nicolae Petrașcu bought a plot of land on Roman Square to create a literary and artistic salon for the Romanian Society of Literature and Art, which he led. The house was designed in a Neo-Romanian style by the architect Ion Mincu and was constructed in 1907. On the ground floor of the villa, there’s a literary and musical salon with a copy of G.D. Mirea’s “Vârful cu dor” painting on its ceiling created by D. Mihăilescu.
A few years later, Nicolae’s younger brother, the famous painter Gheorghe Petrașcu, also built a villa on the same square.
The Nicolae Petrașcu House is private property and can only be viewed from the outside. Unfortunately, the historic monument is in an advanced state of deterioration due to a lack of maintenance, which is why in September 2022, the municipality started a process to expropriate the current owner.
