The Embassy of France in Romania is located in a historic building and the former house of Iancu Marghiloman in central Bucharest.
The Embassy of France has been located in the building next to Marghiloman House since 1889. Because the building became too cramped over time, the French State bought Marghiloman House for its legation in 1938.
The house was originally built by Iancu Marghiloman, the father of the great liberal politician Alexandru Marghiloman (1854-1925) who served as the prime minister of Romania for a short time between March and October 1918. The house was designed by the architect Carol BeniÈ™, constructed in 1873, and extended in 1889.
Next to the French Embassy, you can find the Beaux-Arts-style House of Mitza the Cyclist and the Amzei Church.
