The Church of Saint Basil the Great (Biserica Sfântul Vasile cel Mare) is a Romanian Orthodox church on Victory Avenue in Bucharest.
The area in which the church is built used to be a forest with swamps where a slum called Saint Basil (Sfântul Vasile) was located. Around the end of the 18th or early 19th century, a wooden church already existed here. The new church was most probably built in 1804 and on 7 November 1815, the church was dedicated to the Mărcuța Monastery.
The church was destroyed by the earthquake of 1838 and rebuilt again in 1847, during the reign of Dimitrie Bibescu. Around the 1870s a chapel and several rooms for the parish priest were built with funds provided by Elena Filipescu, a noble Christian. Over the years, many restorations took place to preserve the church.
