The Vasile Pârvan Statue (Statuia lui Vasile Pârvan) is a bronze monument in central Bacău, standing in front of the Bacău County Library Costache Sturdza. Created by sculptor Alexandru Gheorghiță in 1998, it commemorates the Romanian historian and archaeologist Vasile Pârvan (1882-1927), who was born in Huruiești in Bacău County.
Pârvan was a pioneer of Romanian archaeology, particularly known for his research into the ancient civilizations of Dacia and the western Black Sea region. He directed the National Museum of Antiquities in Bucharest, initiated systematic archaeological excavations at Histria, and published the influential study Getica in 1926. His work contributed to the development of archaeology as an academic discipline in Romania.
The four-meter-high statue depicts Pârvan standing upright in a long robe with a broad collar and high boots, holding a book in one hand. The bronze figure stands on a simple cubic pedestal in front of the building that formerly housed the Iulian Antonescu Museum, providing a fitting setting for a monument dedicated to one of Romania’s most influential archaeologists.
