Weather & Climate
Stretching along the Mureș River toward the Hungarian border, this park is a complex riverine ecosystem defined by a network of meanders, side channels, and alluvial forests. The river acts as a massive thermal corridor, bringing moisture and moderating the temperature of the surrounding lowlands. This constant interplay between the flowing water and the dense, shade-providing gallery forests creates a humid, temperate microclimate that buffers the area against the extreme heat of the Pannonian Plain during the summer months.
Summer (June-August): The floodplain is lush and humid, with temperatures averaging 26°C to 31°C. While the open areas can get quite hot, the dense riverside forests offer a significant cooling effect. This is an excellent time for canoeing, cycling along the levee paths, and birdwatching, as the river environment remains vibrant and productive despite the high mid-summer temperatures.
Spring and Autumn: These are the most temperate seasons for exploration. Spring (April–May) features high water levels that highlight the dynamic nature of the river, with mild temperatures of 14°C to 20°C. Autumn (September–October) provides comfortable, stable conditions for long walks through the changing gallery forests, with average temperatures between 12°C and 18°C, ideal for observing the late-season migration of water birds.
Winter (December-March): The floodplain enters a quiet, minimalist state with temperatures ranging from -3°C to 5°C. The river often creates a moody, atmospheric landscape, particularly when fog rolls in from the water channels. While the park remains accessible, visitors should be prepared for high humidity and damp cold, which can feel sharper than in drier environments. Paths along the levee are generally reliable, but caution is advised in areas prone to seasonal mud.
