Dâmbovița County is one of the 41 counties (județe) of Romania. It is located in the South Muntenia development region and is part of the historical region of Muntenia (Wallachia). Dâmbovița is surrounded by the counties of Brașov, Prahova, Ilfov, Giurgiu, Teleorman, and Argeș. Târgoviște is the largest city and capital of Dâmbovița County.
Weather & Climate
Dâmbovița County features a diverse landscape, rising from the fertile Wallachian Plain in the south to the rugged, towering heights of the Southern Carpathians in the north. This vertical variation creates a dynamic, layered continental climate that shifts significantly with elevation.
In the southern plains, summers are warm and sun-drenched, with temperatures typically ranging from 28°C to 32°C. Higher elevations, such as the northern mountain resorts, provide a refreshing, breezy escape, with summer temperatures remaining a mild 16°C to 20°C. Transition seasons are generally pleasant across the county, with average temperatures of 11°C to 19°C.
Regional contrasts are most evident in winter: while the southern lowlands stay cool, often around 0°C to 1°C, the northern mountain corridors experience heavy, persistent snowfall and freezing temperatures of -3°C to -1°C, creating a classic winter landscape.
