The Schuller House (Casa Schuller) is a Renaissance townhouse on King Ferdinand I Square in the center of Mediaș. Built in the 16th century for one of the town’s leading families, it later became the residence of mayor Johannes Schuller and one of the most prominent houses on the main square.
The street façade is relatively restrained, but the building opens onto a much richer inner courtyard with arcaded galleries and vaulted passages. At the entrance, carved stone lions that are now preserved at at the Saint Margaret’s Church once decorated the gateway.
The house also played a role in the political life of Mediaș, providing accommodation for Transylvanian princes during visits to the town. Sigismund Báthory stayed here during a meeting of the Transylvanian Diet, turning the private residence into one of the places where the wider affairs of the principality briefly entered everyday life in Mediaș.
After passing through several later uses, including periods as an inn and tavern, the Schuller House became a cultural venue. Its courtyard and historic rooms are now used for exhibitions, concerts, conferences and other events.
