The Râșnov Fortress Funicular, officially known as Asaltul Cetății Râșnov, is an inclined lift connecting central Râșnov with Râșnov Fortress. Opened in 2015, it provides a quick alternative to the steep walking route from the town center and brings visitors up to the panoramic platform near the fortress entrance.
The line is relatively short but steep, covering 165 meters while climbing about 85 meters in elevation. The track follows a 37-degree incline, and the journey takes roughly two minutes from one station to the other.
A single cabin carries passengers along the rack-assisted inclined track, with space for up to 18 people. The ride climbs directly through the wooded western slope of the fortress hill, gradually opening views back across Râșnov as it approaches the upper station.
The lower station is located behind the Râșnov House of Culture on Piața Unirii, making the funicular particularly convenient for visitors approaching from the historic center. At the top, passengers arrive beside the panoramic platform and continue on foot toward the fortress.
The funicular can be used for either the ascent, descent, or a return journey, making it useful both for avoiding the steep climb and for combining one direction on foot with the other by lift. Ticket prices and operating hours can be found on the operator’s website.
